Photography Practice: A Tool for Continued Growth
Photography has always been my way of connecting with the world. Whether freelancing or working full-time, it’s been a daily practice of noticing, documenting, and engaging with my surroundings. Even now, working exclusively as a freelancer, photography continues to inspire me, turning ordinary moments into meaningful stories and occasional assignments into opportunities to explore new perspectives.
Being part of photo clubs like Women in Focus Atlanta (WIF) and the Cobb Photographic Society adds another layer to the practice. Workshops, photo walks, and image critiques provide skill-building and community. Planned photography activities motivate me to create new work and see it alongside works by my creative peers. For me, photography is about curiosity, presence, and connection, a lifelong practice that deepens with every click of the shutter.
During the Women in Focus Atlanta’s 2025 holiday brunch, photographers exchanged prints in unmarked envelopes passed around until they circulated through the group. No one knew whose work would become theirs. It was lots of fun in a ‘musical chairs’ kind of way. WIF Founder Gittel Price described this tradition, saying, “It’s a way everyone gets to have art.”
I encourage anyone who loves image making to join a club and participate to grow their photography craft and community. There’s always something more to strive for, especially when it comes to innovative discovery and expression.
